The Under Cover Sessions, the latest release from Ill Nino is a five song mix of two originals (“Arrastra” and “Reservation For Two”) and three covers (“Zombie Eaters”, “Red Rain” and “Territorial Pissings”). All five songs are done really well and make for a really strong EP.

The Under Cover Sessions kicks off with some in-your-face sounding dude rock on “Arrastra”. The song is a radio-friendly original with a good mix of singing and screaming. The second track, a cover of Faith No More’s “Zombie Eaters” starts off with a calming acoustic melody, and then comes in with a hard hitting bass line and strong vocals. The dynamics of this song are a fantastic emotional roller coaster with highs and lows in all the right places. “Zombie Eaters” also features Chino Moreno of the Deftones on guest vocals, making the track just that much better. The next track, “Reservation For Two” is calmer and features with some Spanish-sounding guitar riffs mixed in. It is rather melodic and borders on the risk of sounding slightly emo, not in the slit-your-wrists-in-the-bathtub way, but in a good way. The final track, Ill Nino’s version of “Territorial Pissings” really does justice to Nirvana’s original song. They keep it respectful by abiding by the original melody, but change it up enough with a bit of acoustic guitar to make it their own.

As a whole, the record is really tight with great production and a strong overall sound. It has its highs and lows and each song has its own slight touch that keeps the album interesting throughout.

Bottom Line: This album is highly recommended. Its easy to listen to, and the five songs will leave you asking for more.
Notable Tracks: “Zombie Eaters”, “Reservation For Two” and “Territorial Pissings”.
