The 3rd and possible last installment of the Bourne series, brings another exciting new score from composer John Powell. To my disappointment, the album features only 10 tracks but the tracks included are a true representation of the movie. After seeing the film, some of the main titles that have been featured in the other movies, are used again but with a more updated feel to them. Some of which included the main titles as well as a new “Marie” theme. Like other Bourne movies, you get a sense of the “thriller” cues to be very urgent. Not to mention the up tempo and intense action cues are used throughout the score and that generally make up the film and keep you on the edge of your seat. Powell tries to integrate orchestra music with some techno style scoring as he has done with the previous soundtracks.

With the film, I think more cues like “Thinking Of Marie” should have been used but then again, these movies are mostly action thrillers and its hard to find those moments where such a dramatic piece of music could be placed. Cuts like “Tangiers” is a heart racing track which takes place during the movie’s many exciting action sequences taking place in Tangiers, Morocco. “Man Verses Man,” and “Jason is Reborn” delve more into the New York centerpiece of the storyline and you can tell that the big reveals and action finales take place during these tracks. With the third soundtrack, also comes an updated version of Moby’s song for the end titles “Extreme Ways,” and this song is very catchy and I love it. It’s definitely more upbeat than the last time we heard it and features some newer background vocals as well.

Bottom Line: While Powell could have done more with this soundtrack, I suppose “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” mentality came into mind here. It’s still very enjoyable to listen to.
