Like most people, I didn’t watch Family Guy when it aired on Fox and actually fell in love with the show over the summer. I did see briefly an episode or two when it was on Fox and didn’t watch it in full and didn’t like it for some reason. I don’t think I was fond of Stewie on first impression. But that has all changed since catching the show on Cartoon Network and on DVD. This has quickly became one of my favorite shows EVER, and it’s sad to see the show off the air now. Fox usually cancels the best shows before their prime like Titus, Undeclared, Andy Ritcher and so on. But Creator Seth Macfarlane just signed on for a development deal for a new cartoon for Fox so that’s good to hear.

Anyway, back to Family Guy. These DVDs (Vol. 1 and 2) are great because there’s no annoying commercials and you can just breeze by then like that. I found myself watching these episodes over and over because they are that awesome. People compare this show to The Simpsons and All In The Family. I got in a groove for awhile with just watching Family Guy and when I eventually watched a Simpsons episode, it just felt weird. The transition isn’t there you know. They are completely different in style. For Instance, when I was watching a Simpsons episode and when a character spoke, I was thinking there was going to be a flashback or a “what if” scene right after that. I love that style of Family Guy and love how over the top funny it is. I can’t believe Fox let them do most of these episodes and the one that didn’t air wasn’t as bad as ones that did. The unaired episode “When you Wish Upon A Weinstein” is on this volume and it’s good to see that people can watch it now.

Other extras on here are commentary on selected episode with creator/jack of all trades Seth MacFarlane and other people like producers, voice actors, and writers. Those are good as well because they are cursing like sailors on there but also give you decent info about the episodes they are talking about. I wish it was on every episode but you can’t get everything in life now can you? Other extras on here are some animatics but I haven’t checked them out yet for some reason but I have seen the 2 featurettes on the show about the series and censorship. Those were decent but too short. I wish we got a look at the making of process because I love that stuff but I guess they didn’t film it or something. If you haven’t see any episodes yet, start with Volume 1 (Seasons 1 & 2) and start from scratch because with each episode, they get better as they go along. Then get Volume 2 which contains season 3, sadly the last season. Just look at me, I didn’t like the show at first but once you watch them, you’ll be quoting and doing Peter Griffin impressions with your friends in no time.
