The 5th View Askew movie for Kevin Smith, and most likely his last….for at least a little awhile. Anyone who hasn’t seen at least one of Kevin Smith’s movies will not get half the jokes in this movie; so if you haven’t seen any of those, either don’t go or watch the other ones first.
The story is about Jay and Silent Bob going to Hollywood to stop production on a movie being based about them from the comic book Bluntman and Chronic, and to stop all the Internet talk backers from talking shit about them. I don’t know what movie is my favorite out of all the 5 movies that Kevin Smith did. I liked Clerks but I thought it got annoying after awhile. I actually am probably out of the norm here but I thought Mallrats was the best film out of all of them, and I liked Dogma too.
I only saw Chasing Amy once and thought it was okay. How did this film compare to those. I liked the other ones better. It was funny seeing the website that they were looking at because it looked like Comingsoon.net’s layout. Though it probably was just a coincidence and based on all the Internet movies sites out there. I loved how the movie makes fun of the Internet, and Hollywood and even itself. Certainly the best parts of the movie were with Jay and Silent Bob in a certain blue, and green van. Another classic scene for J&SBSB was with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon playing themselves for Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season.
The Bluntman and Chronic saber scenes were hilarious to watch, especially if you’re a Star Wars fans. There’s lots of other scenes that were great and lots of inside jokes, and poking fun at other movies. Such as Planet Of The Apes, Star Wars (of course), ET and even Pee Wee Herman’s Big Adventure. I also liked Jay’s rap in the beginning of movie. I didn’t like the story with “Justice” played Shannon Elizabeth and her friends. Even though they are super hot and look great in black tight clothing, they just seem to have the worst dialogue and it didn’t really fit with the rest of the movie.
I liked Will Ferrell’s character as the animal sheriff or whatever he was. His character was part of the “Justice” storyline though. I was disappointed with this movie but I still laughed a lot, and thought it was funny. There were a lot of sporadic moments that made the movie funny, but to me, the rest of the film just seemed to fall flat.
I’ve heard a lot of mix reviews of J&SBSB, so I guess it’s up to you whether or not to go see this. If you’re a big fan of Kevin Smith films, you’ll enjoy this movie. I thought many parts were great, but I was disappointed. And don’t come to my house and beat the shit out of me either!!! hahahaha
