Gappy Ranks- “Put The Stereo On”

Album Reviews | Sep 1st, 2010

Genre: Reggae/Dancehall
Record Label: VP Records

UK Reggae sensation Gappy Ranks pays respect to his elders in his latest record “Put The Stereo On.” Featuring a very vintage sound, mixed in with Gappy’s vocals, the new record has a unique mix. With his latest hits like “Heaven in Her Eyes,” and the album title track “Put The Stereo On,” Gappy has conquered the UK reggae scene and is now ready to bring his music worldwide!

Gappy Ranks jumped onto the UK Reggae Music Scene with a Dancehall collective, Sunnycycle and now is working with the Production team, Pecking Crew. In this record, Gappy celebrates what help build reggae to what it is, with riddims and beats that are very traditional. His vocals are solid but autotune is overused and that can be distracting. I wish Reggae artists would stop using that. Gappy Ranks has some strong tracks on this record though, including Soul Rebel with UK reggae artist Nereus Joseph, and Heaven in Her Eyes.

Bottom Line: An homage to reggae music that started it all off with a vintage/ yet current sound.
Notable Tracks: Heaven in Her Eyes, Soul Rebel, Put The Stereo On.
