Hypnotic, a little arty, Rooftop Runners play sparse, soft indie rock with a menacing, bass-heavy undercurrent.
The band – two brothers from Canada – are based in Berlin, and I can see their music going over well there. They have that stripped-down, dark, post-punk sound, like Joy Division and early Wire. And you can’t help but think of Lou Reed when the lyrics to “Energize” repeat: “Welcome to the wild side, honey.”
Bottom Line: Minimalist dark wavey indie.
Notable Tracks: Energize, Bang Bang
