The Canadian ska band The Planet Smashers are FINALLY back for another album that will blow your two tone socks off! It’s been 6 years since their last album and it’s been far too long. I’m happy to say that this album is just as good as Mighty, their best album in my opinion.

They don’t start off to a good start though, with some meh intro “The Descent Into The Valley Of The Planet Smashers.” Just seems like a waste of space but they quickly redeem themselves with the quirky, beyond catchy “The Hippopotamus.” It’s a new dance they created which you can see in their music video. The song tells you what to do as well; very similar to dance instructions songs like the Hokey Pokey. Thankfully this song is not lame like the dreaded Hokey Pokey. I should have played “the Hippopotamus” at my wedding but people probably would have looked at me like I had two heads if I did this dance.

“My Obsession” could be my favorite Planet Smashers song EVER! The intro to that song is so fucking catchy that it seems perfect for a theme song to a TV show. Maybe I can use it for my upcoming web series? It’s not a horn driven ska song but the beat is still there. It’s a different style that the Planet Smashers haven’t really played before and I really hope they continue making songs like this. I think what sells it is the keyboards or whatever electronic beat is in the song.

The rest of the album is just as good, especially tracks like “I’m Ok If You Want To Party,” “I Believe You” and “Death Threats.” I hope it doesn’t take another 6 years for the next album but if it does, I guess this one will hold us over until then.

Bottom Line: The 6 year wait has been worth it!
