Warner Bros continues to release separate Looney Tunes DVDs instead of The Golden Collections for some reason. One of the latest DVDs is a series of Tweety and Sylvester cartoons. If you don’t already own the Golden Collections, this might be something to own. If you do, there’s really no sense in getting this then.
Tweety and Sylvester cartoons are always fun to watch and one of my favorites in the Looney Tunes collection. I like Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny first obviously, but Tweety and Sylvester are right up there. It’s just fun to see how Sylvester the cat tries to get and eat Tweety each time. Every cartoon results in the same thing, Tweety outsmarting the cat. This set includes some of the best animated shorts from the duo including Birds Anonymous where Sylvester tries to kick his birdie habit. Other shorts included on this set: Bad Ol’ Putty Tat, Canary Row, Gift Wrapped, Snow Business, Satan’s Waitin’ and more. There’s almost two hours worth of shorts on here and they will go by pretty quickly!
From what I remember from watching the animated shorts on the Golden Collections, the cartoons were cleaned up production wise. I’m not sure this is the case this time since a lot of the cartoons appeared to be dated in appearance. There was dust and other stuff in the cartoons, with no signs of clean up. Maybe I’m just being really picky with cartoons. It’s nice having a set dedicated to certain characters, but I just wish there were more Golden Collections. That can’t be all the volumes is there? There seems like there’s still plenty of cartoons yet to be released. But enough about that, this collection of Tweety and Sylvester cartoons are great. A best-of collection if you will. Watching these cartoons makes me realize that we may never have cartoons like this anymore. Cartoons that are, for the most part, harmless good fun that both adults and children can enjoy. I guess Pixar cartoons come close. Nothing will ever top Looney Tunes for me though. Tweety and Sylvester are just some of the characters I enjoy to watch whenever I get the chance and this DVD succeeded in that….even though I already saw these on the Golden Collections.
